EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Initial Course 8-Hour This 8-hour EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Initial course is required for individuals seeking to become an EPA-Certified Renovator under the federal Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule (40 CFR Part 745). Successful completion of this course allows individuals to perform renovation, repair, and painting activities that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities. The EPA RRP Rule applies to contractors, property managers, maintenance personnel, and firms performing work for compensation that disturbs painted surfaces in residential properties built before 1978 or in facilities regularly occupied by children under six years of age. This course provides both classroom instruction and hands-on training in lead-safe work practices, including required containment and cleaning procedures. Topics covered include: • Overview of the EPA Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule • Health effects of lead exposure • Identifying lead-based paint hazards • Lead-safe work practices and prohibited methods • Proper containment setup and dust control • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements • Cleaning verification procedures • Recordkeeping and documentation requirements • Responsibilities of the Certified Renovator Students must successfully complete the hands-on skills assessment and pass the required examination to receive EPA Certified Renovator documentation. Certification is valid for five years. To maintain certification without interruption, individuals must complete the 4-hour EPA RRP Refresher course prior to expiration.
