AHERA Building Inspector Initial (24 Hours)
This 24-hour AHERA Asbestos Building Inspector Initial Certification course fulfills both federal EPA and Cal‑OSHA requirements for individuals seeking to inspect buildings for asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). It is also a required component for those pursuing credentials as Cal‑OSHA Certified Asbestos Consultants (CACs) or Site Surveillance Technicians (CSSTs). Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training, participants will learn how to locate, sample, and document suspect asbestos materials in schools, public buildings, and commercial facilities. In addition, the course outlines proper inspection techniques, personal protection standards, and regulatory compliance under AHERA and Title 8 CCR §341.15.
Participants will learn:
- Identification, classification, and sampling of ACMs
- Common asbestos locations and building systems
- EPA/AHERA and Cal-OSHA regulatory compliance
- Health effects, liability, and insurance concerns
- Use of PPE, safety protocols, and medical monitoring standards
- Proper documentation and inspection report preparation
The course includes hands-on training using sampling tools and mock inspection scenarios to reinforce field techniques. Students will gain practical experience in locating, collecting, and documenting suspect materials using the latest standards and protocols.
No prerequisites required.
Full attendance is required to receive an AHERA BI certificate.
