This AHERA Project Designer Initial-accredited course fulfills EPA and Cal-OSHA requirements for individuals responsible for designing asbestos abatement projects in schools and public, commercial, or industrial buildings. It is a required course for those pursuing certification as a Cal-OSHA Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC).
Participants will learn to:
Develop detailed asbestos abatement plans and technical specifications
Design engineering controls and project phasing strategies
Address abatement in occupied buildings
Prepare bid packages, project drawings, and response action schematics
Evaluate conditions and select appropriate asbestos response options
Estimate project costs and review contractor bids
Apply AHERA and Cal-OSHA regulations, legal liability considerations, and safety protocols
Hands-on exercises include reviewing project drawings and drafting abatement design based on real-world parameters. Students should be familiar with Contractor/Supervisor practices prior to attending, though AHERA Contractor/Supervisor certification is not legally required.
Prerequisite (Recommended): AHERA Contractor/Supervisor certification
Full attendance is required to receive an AHERA Project Designer certificate.
